WINDSOR STREET FACADE REDESIGN

At Windsor and Young Street in North End Halifax, root architecture was initiated to rethink the street front design an entryway to this residential block from the late 1980s. The building had great brick bones and appealing form but suffered from oversized and weathered balconies, overpowering the façade and create a dark entryway. We designed alterations to this façade to minimize and modernize the balcony structure - with steel and laminated wood panels - to refresh the look and contrast the strength of the brick façade. To solve the entryway, balconies were removed from one area to create a signified entrance point, with its own canopy and up lighting that draw the public in.
