BEDFORD INSTITUE OF OCEANOGRAPHY - ENERGY CENTRE

This 5000 square foot building was built in 2002, prior to the introduction of the LEED rating system in Canada. With a basic program, Kendall Taylor set out to design one of the more innovative green buildings in Atlantic Canada, completed under WHW Architects. All materials were utilized in their natural state. One of the first of its kind, the green roof has been studied by building scientists across the country. On site generated electricity from photovoltaic panels power the awning windows, which provide ample, natural ventilation. This project later received a design award from the Nova Scotia Association of Architects.
